Intro. Text. Peace — a universal hunger for, the ideal goal. Jesus came to bring peace — peace illustrated by a calm sea, human struggles by a stormy sea. Three great sea stories of the Bible.

I. Jonah and the storm — Running away from God.

  • A. Disobedience of God — why? 8th B.C.
  • B. Attempt to run away from God. Human will vs. divine will. “all have sinned…”
  • C. Disastrous consequences — public & private
  • D. It took a miracle to save Jonah.

II. Jesus and the storm — Power to still the storm
